Bachelor of Arts (Honours) BA(Hons)
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is a one-year postgraduate degree that allows students to further their study and enhance their career potential with advanced courses and supervised research alongside some of New Zealand's leading scholars.
Programme Overview
After graduating with a BA, students can complete a one-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) as a qualification in its own right. Alternatively, it can be a pathway to a further year of study in a Master of Arts programme. The BA(Hons) is an opportunity to extend understanding of an academic area that students already find intellectually rewarding and personally meaningful.
Programme Structure
- 120 points
- Advanced taught courses (75 or 90 points)
- A small research project such as a dissertation (usually 30 or 45 points)
- Students may be able to include up to 30 points from other subjects
- One year full-time or up to two years part-time
- The structure of the programme depends on the subject being studied.

Entry Requirements
Minimum Programme Requirements
- Study option: Taught 120 points
- Grade required: GPA 5.0 (for University of Auckland graduates) or GPE 5.0 (for other university graduates)
- Bachelor of Arts (for University of Auckland graduates) or an undergraduate degree in a similar discipline (for other university graduates)
Further Programme Requirements
- Students are also eligible for this programme if they have completed a Bachelor of Arts with a GPA of 5.0 or higher in 60 points above Stage II, and a major in a prerequisite for their intended subject.
- Prerequisites are usually a major in the intended subject, but some subjects have more specific requirements.

- Domestic students: NZ$9,392.40 $11,620.80
- International students: NZ$44,970 $52,838
- Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.
