Degree Overview
The Master of Disaster Management (MDisMgt) equips students with the skills and knowledge to confidently address complex disaster management issues in high-pressure environments. The program focuses on the major aspects of disaster resilience and risk reduction, providing a holistic approach to disaster management. Students will learn to design frameworks, create policies, and develop solutions for disaster preparedness and recovery. A key component of the program is the research project, which allows students to demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills by independently addressing a real-world issue within a disaster setting. The MDisMgt draws upon expertise across the University of Auckland, with contributions from world-class academics from the Faculty of Engineering along with experts in Science, Architecture and Planning, Development Studies, and Environmental Law. Students come from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, but they all share a common goal of helping communities prepare for and recover from natural disasters.
Outline
The MDisMgt is offered as a flexible program with two options: a 120-point degree or a 180-point degree. The 120-point option is designed for students who have already completed the equivalent of one full-time year of postgraduate study.

- DISMGT 704 A/B Research Project (45-point course, spans over two semesters)
- ENGGEN 742 Project Management (compulsory for the 180-point program only)

- ENGGEN 731 Agile and Lean Project Management
- ENGGEN 742 Project Management (available on campus in Semester One and online in Semester Two)
