Master of Education:
Domestic students:
- Bachelor of Education (Teaching) (Honours) and Master of Education in Teaching (MET) This pathway is only available for qualified teachers who have already completed the MET degree from any New Zealand university (or have an equivalent recognised qualification) with a cumulative average grade point average of 80%. Additionally, candidates must have taught in Aotearoa NZ for a minimum of 12 months in the year preceding the commencement of their studies.
- Bachelors degree with at least 45 points in Education Students without any teaching experience but who hold a New Zealand Bachelor's degree (including any recognized New Zealand degree deemed comparable) with a minimum cumulative average grade point average of 80% and have successfully completed at least 45 points of Education studies are eligible for this pathway. If this is not in their bachelor’s qualification, then these must be at level 5.
- Entry into 180-point master's programme Applicants to this 180-point pathway require the same entry standard as in other pathways, a cumulative average grade point average of 80%, but are additionally expected to possess a bachelor’s degree with at least 60 of education coursework, demonstrating their suitability to conduct the thesis or dissertation required in this pathway.
International students
International students from overseas must have achieved at least:
- A bachelor’s degree deemed equivalent to that of New Zealand and recognized as appropriate, and achieved at least:
- Distinction: if they’re a direct entry; or
- Good grades if they hold an NZ-equivalent postgraduate qualification from any nation; or a bachelor-level academic record regarded as comparable for entry to postgraduate studies or research
- a cumulative GPA of B+ if it's less than 10 years since graduation
- a cumulative GPA of A if more than 10 years have passed since your graduation They may also need to satisfy additional criteria to gain admission. If these are not satisfied, it doesn’t bar you from admission. However, for students requiring further language-skill verification as part of their admission requirements, the following standardized English assessments and their minimum score for qualification are:
- IELTS: at least 6.5 with any individual band of no less than 6.0 (general or academic versions of the test are accepted in some cases, so consult individual program details)
- Cambridge English: a C grade with no individual component lower in score
- TOEFL: score above 90, including 22+ on Writing, 21+ on Reading and Listening, and 20+ on Speaking sections
