Program Overview
Master of Environmental Science
The Master of Environmental Science is a postgraduate degree that provides students with the specialist knowledge and skills to contribute solutions to issues associated with ongoing and rapid change in the Earth's environmental systems.
Programme Overview
The programme focuses on transdisciplinary knowledge, covering topics such as water-use and governance, air and water quality, ecosystem ecology, environmental modelling and analysis, climate change, and resource management. Graduates of the MEnvSci will have developed the crucial conceptual and practical skills required of professional environmental scientists in research and industry.
Programme Structure
- All students are initially enrolled in the taught stream.
- Transfer to the Research stream is possible after the first semester.
- The programme consists of 180 points, with both taught and research options available.
Entry Requirements
Minimum Programme Requirements
- GPA of 4.0 or higher in 60 points at Stage III in Environmental Science or a related subject.
- IELTS Academic score of 6.5 with no bands less than 6.0.
Further Programme Requirements
- Completed an undergraduate degree in Science with a GPA of 4.0 or higher in 60 points at Stage III in Environmental Science or a related subject.
- Alternative pathways to study are available for those who do not meet the above entry requirements.

- Domestic students: NZ$11,545.20*
- International students: NZ$55,484*
- Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, and health insurance, or living costs.
