Program Overview
Master of Audiology
The Master of Audiology is a professional training program that qualifies students as clinical audiologists in New Zealand. This research-based program is recognized by the New Zealand Audiological Society (NZAS).
Programme Overview
Becoming an audiologist involves a two-year master's program, followed by one further year of supervised clinical practice. This leads to a Certificate of Clinical Competence provided by the NZAS, which is normally undertaken while employed in an audiology clinic. Facilities such as the University's Hearing and Tinnitus Clinic and The Oticon Foundation Hearing Education Centre provide excellent opportunities for clinical training and continuing education for practicing audiologists.
Programme Structure
This is a 240-point research-based program that consists of two parts:
- Part I: Core courses in auditory neuroscience, diagnostic audiology, clinical otolaryngology, and hearing aids for the impaired (120 points)
- Part II: Clinical practicum with emphasis on pediatric audiology (30 points) and completion of a thesis (90 points)
