Program Overview
Master of Bioscience Enterprise MBioEnt
The Master of Bioscience Enterprise (MBioEnt) is an interdisciplinary research master's degree that combines the best of Science, Business, and Law to equip Science graduates with the skills to navigate the business world with confidence.
Programme Overview
Taught by the School of Biological Sciences, the Business School, and the Faculty of Law, the MBioEnt program teaches scientists to understand and protect the value of their research. The program focuses on translating breakthrough discoveries into high-value products and strategies for commercialization, exploring key aspects of intellectual property law, valuation tools, and business plan writing. A unique feature of the program is a six-month industry internship, offering students a hands-on opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world setting.
Programme Structure
The MBioEnt program can be completed full-time in one year or part-time over two years. Students must complete 120 points from the following courses:
- A 90-point thesis completed as a research project and submitted during the six-month industry internship
- 30 points from courses on topics such as Science Enterprise Research Methods, Product Development and Regulatory Environments, and Current Issues in Bioscience Enterprise

Programme Requirements
To be eligible for the MBioEnt program, applicants must have completed the requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma in Bioscience Enterprise (PGDipBioEnt) from the University of Auckland with a Grade Point Average of 6.0 or higher. This program has limited entry as per the Limitation of Entry Statute 1991.

2026 Fees
- Domestic students: NZ$10,618.80*
- International students: NZ$55,484*
Fees are inclusive of 15% GST but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel, health insurance, or living costs. An additional Student Services Fee of $9.44 per point applies, estimated at $1,132.80 for full-time study (120 points).
