It builds on your existing knowledge and experience of healthcare systems and practice, to enable you to provide midwifery care across the continuum of care for women, newborn infants, and families.
Part one will introduce you to the role of the midwife and normal midwifery care including anatomy and physiology. Time spent during practice placements will help you to link foundational theory to midwifery practice.
Part two will build on the skills you have developed in part one, introducing you to complex care, managing emergencies and leadership skills.
This course enables you to achieve outcomes and proficiencies in-line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, leading to entry to register as a midwife.

Your studies will include anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, cultural and psychosocial issues, interprofessional working, legal and ethical issues. Upon graduation, you will be able to confidently assess, plan, implement and evaluate effective midwifery care. Your learning will be integrated with that of other students from our School of Health and Education and designated study days will be organised for shared learning with midwifery, medical and social work students. You will have your own patients and will be supported by a mentor. You will also gain some experience in other areas of healthcare. You will also attend interactive sessions, seminars, workshops and group and individual tutorials, and learn through problem-solving and role-play exercises, visits, critical reviews of research studies, case study analyses, group work and online research.
