  • University Entrance - NCEA Level 3:
  • Three subjects at Level 3, made up of:
  • 14 credits each in three NZQA University Entrance approved subjects
  • Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above (5 credits in reading and 5 in writing)
  • Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above (through specified achievement standards or all three numeracy unit standards: 26623, 26626, 26627)
  • #Mature Applicants
  • Be at least 20 years old when the program begins
  • Provide evidence of aptitude or appropriate work experience
  • Completion of an external or overseas qualification considered equivalent to the above, as approved by the Head of Faculty
  • #Additional Requirements
  • Each year of study must be successfully completed before moving to the next
  • All prerequisites for individual papers must be met
  • NCEA Level 3 with University Entrance
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma or Cambridge A-level qualification with English instruction
  • Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA)
  • Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL
  • Completion of primary and at least three years of secondary education in English-medium schools in NZ, Australia, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, the UK, or the US
  • Completion of at least five years of secondary education in English-medium schools in those countries
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree, Graduate Certificate/Diploma, Master's Degree, or Doctoral Degree, with English instruction, from a tertiary institution in those countries
  • Achieving the required score on an internationally recognized English proficiency test:
  • IELTS Academic: 6 overall with no band below 5.5
  • TOEFL Paper-based test: 550 (with essay score 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL Internet-based test: 60 (with writing score 18)
  • Cambridge English Examination B2 First/for schools or C1 Advanced/Proficiency with score 169 (no less than 162 in each skill)
  • OET: Minimum Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • NZCEL: Expiring Level 4 (Academic) or Current Level 4 (Academic)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) PTE: 50 with no band below 42
  • Language Cert C1 Expert International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS
  • Trinity ISE II with no less than distinction in any band

International Students (Outside NZ and Australia):

  • Completion of an approved qualification recognized as equivalent to NZ University Entrance by NZQA
  • Completion of an approved New Zealand-based qualification at Level 4 or higher
  • Completion of a secondary school qualification from an approved country, with good passes in relevant subjects
  • Completion of other qualifications approved by SIT as demonstrating sufficient academic ability
