Program Overview
This part-time, two-year program equips individuals with the knowledge and skills to work in the wool production and processing industry. It covers topics such as wool value chain, classification, woolshed management, and wool processing systems. Graduates are eligible to become wool classers and may find employment in various settings within the industry. The program is offered through blended delivery, combining online instruction with optional block courses.

Program Content:
- Wool Value Chain (15 credits): Explores fleece identification, sampling, recording procedures, and identification of different wool lines and grades according to sheep breed.
- Wool Classification (20 credits): Develops knowledge and skills in identifying different wool lines and grades based on sheep breed to evaluate and classify wool for market and supply chain requirements and industry standards.
- Working in the Wool Industry (15 credits): Identifies wool characteristics and uses wool classification codes and technologies to class wool fiber and communicate findings.
- Woolshed Management (10 credits): Provides knowledge and skills to manage responsibilities and team output in a woolshed.
Structure:
- Part-time over 2 years (2 papers per year starting in February and June).
- Blended delivery: online instruction with optional 5-day block courses in the North and South Island.

Entry Requirements:
Domestic Students:
- Applicants under 20 years:
- Must be a minimum of 16 years old and have attained NCEA Level 2.
- Applicants over 20 years:
- May be considered regardless of prior qualifications if they can demonstrate their ability to succeed in the program. This may involve evidence of successful completion of a related program at Level 3 or above, relevant employment experience, or personal commitment and self-belief.
International Students:
- Academic Requirements:
- Completion of secondary education (equivalent to New Zealand secondary school years 9-13) in either New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
- If the language of instruction in these countries was not English, students must provide evidence of English language proficiency through an approved test.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
- IELTS: Overall score of 5.5, with no band lower than 5.0.
- TOEFL: Paper-based: 530, with 4.5 on the essay section; Internet-based: 46, with 14 on the writing section.
- Cambridge English Examination: B2 First or B2 First for Schools, with a score of 162 (minimum 154 in each skill).
- OET: Minimum Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests.
- Pearson Test of English (Academic): Score of 42 with no band lower than 36.
- LanguageCert: B2 Communicator International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS.
- Trinity ISE: ISE II with at least a pass in any band.
Additional Notes:
- Students who have previously completed certain wool-related courses may receive credit transfer for certain modules.
- Part-time study is an option, with students able to enroll in one paper per intake.
- Students must have internet access to download course materials and submit assessments.
