Overview
The Certificate of Graduate Study in Teacher Leadership is a 15-credit graduate program designed to help educators refine their leadership role and become adept at supervising, mentoring, coaching, and preparing professional teachers in various content and leadership areas.
Program of Study
Reflective Teaching Fieldwork (6 credits)
- Formally articulate your personal teaching practices and your role in supporting the practice of others, such as P-12 students, college students, and practicing teachers.
- Choose one or two of the following courses:
- Reflective Practice (Educational Theory and Practice)
- Supervised Fieldwork (Literacy Teaching and Learning)
- Practitioner and Participatory Action Research (Literacy Teaching and Learning)
- Graduate Internship (Educational Policy and Leadership)
Focused Study Electives (6 credits)
- Design a two-course elective sequence with guidance from your advisor that best supports your particular area of interest.
- These courses will often align with a subject area, such as literacy, that support your teacher leadership efforts.
Course in Professional Development, Mentoring, or Coaching (3 credits)
- Choose a course that matches your primary interests in a specific teacher leadership area (e.g., professional learning, coaching) for the school where you teach or in other organizational or community education settings.
- Choose one of the following courses:
- Frameworks for Professional Development (Educational Theory and Practice)
- Research on Preparing Literacy Teachers to Cultivate Equitable and Diverse Learning Contexts (Literacy Teaching and Learning)
- Teacher Leadership (Literacy Teaching and Learning)
- Supervisory Leadership (Educational Policy and Leadership)
- Institute in Education: Special Topics on various education areas

- Master's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for admission into the program
