Program Overview
The Master of Arts in Economics program at the University at Albany is designed to empower students to excel as modern economists. The program prepares students for careers in administration and research in government, business, and other private organizations. Students can acquire advanced training in economic analysis to become experts in their designated area of concentration.
Program of Study
The program can be completed in one full year or three semesters of full-time study or on a part-time basis through evening and online classes. Students can improve their knowledge of economics by pursuing a number of concentrations within their MA studies.

Student Learning Objectives
- Develop in-depth competency in the core areas of microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, and applied econometrics.
- Develop additional competency through elective coursework in one field of specialization.
- Be able to use economic analysis to solve problems and answer questions that arise in the private and public sectors.
- Be able to use common software programs for performing econometric analyses of data.
- Be able to communicate economic reasoning, econometric methods and evidence in a professional setting.
- Prepare to pursue a doctorate in economics (for those students using the MA program as a stepping stone to PhD study).
