Overview

This postgraduate course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to become an Operations Manager or Business Analyst. The program focuses on the function of operations management and its role within a successful organization, as well as the utilization of data to drive valuable insights and make informed business decisions.

Introduction

In a world of increasing globalization, the need for world-class operations managers who can work effectively in an international business environment and utilize data to drive valuable insights to make informed business decisions is growing. This course will provide students with the skills and knowledge to leverage data effectively and drive strategic business decisions.


Modules

  • Procurement, Risk, and Contract Management: This module will provide students with an overview of project risk and help develop the skills needed to effectively manage procurement processes in a multitude of environments.
  • Managing Project Deployment and Delivery: This module focuses on developing an understanding of the approaches, skills, and methods of project management and the tools and techniques of planning, control, teamwork, leadership, and other processes.
  • Business Data Insights and Analytics: This module focuses on the utilization of data to drive valuable insights and make informed business decisions.
  • Planning and Control Systems: This module focuses on developing the tools required to support businesses with planning and the scheduling of their resources.
  • Industry 5.0: This module delivers an in-depth evaluation of the need for progression from industry 4.0 to industry 5.0 for global markets and supply chains.
  • Global Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Optimisation: This module will enhance students' understanding of advanced inventory management and forecasting, enabling them to optimize supply chain operations and logistics internationally.
  • LeAgile Operations and Value Management: This module has a strong focus on the leagile framework for operations management and the key roles of value management to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Research Methods for Managers: This module focuses on practical research methodologies and techniques for preparing students to conduct research within the workplace.
  • Work Placement: Students will have the opportunity to choose a work placement as their final elective module.
  • Business Consultancy Project: An experiential opportunity where students will work with clients to solve live business problems.
  • Business Internship: A 3-month experiential opportunity within an organization, focusing on real-world project management issues.
  • Business Dissertation: Students will select a particular topic they are interested in for further in-depth study.
  • Entrepreneurial Development Project: An experiential learning opportunity where students will conduct market and business environment research to identify a business idea or venture and develop a business plan.

What Will I be Doing?

Teaching

We aim to develop the next generation of managers and leaders who can identify and define the information required on a given topic, use research skills to identify relevant information resources, and manage and critically evaluate the information found and reference appropriately.


Assessments

Assessment is 100% coursework, with no exams. Assessments may include individual and group written reports, individual and group simulation modelling reports, presentations, posters, podcasts/video recordings, portfolios, and project reports.

Dr Kostas Chaldoupis


Kostas Chaldoupis is a Lecturer in Procurement and Logistics and the programme leader for the MSc in Operations Management and Business Analytics. Kostas joined Salford Business School after an industrial career in management consultancy and marketing.

English Language Requirements

International applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English. An IELTS score of 6.0 (with no element below 5.5) is proof of this.

  • Undergraduate Degree: Normally a minimum 2:2 honours degree or equivalent. A wide range of professional qualifications are also accepted, either in partial or complete fulfilment of entry requirements.
