Overview

The MSc Health and Global Environment postgraduate degree is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in planning and decision-making to improve the health of populations at global and national levels.

Course Structure

The 180-credit MSc award comprises eight 15-credit taught modules, followed by a 60-credit research project.

• Global Determinants of Environmental Health
• Choose two options from:

  • Environmental Pollution and Remediation

Trimester Two

• Professional Practice
• Research Design and Delivery
• Infectious Disease Control
• Principles of Epidemiology and Surveillance

Trimester Three

• Dissertation (60 credits)

Teaching and Assessments

Teaching is delivered through lectures, with some by visiting practitioners; fieldwork; site visits; seminars and tutorials. Each module is assessed individually through coursework including formative and summative assessments.

English Language Requirements

All courses are taught and assessed in English. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University's minimum English language entry requirements. An IELTS score of 6.0 (no element below 5.5) is proof of this, however, the University does accept a range of equivalent qualifications.

Standard Entry Requirements

• Undergraduate degree: Applicants require at least a UK lower second-class honours degree (2:2) or equivalent in any subject.

• Full-time international: £17,000 per year (2025/26)
• Part-time: Calculated on a pro-rata basis

Additional Costs

Field courses and trip costs are covered by the University. You will not be charged for field (day) trips, but you are expected to provide your own refreshments.
