Overview

Radiology Image Interpretation (RII) is a 30 credit module aimed at Radiographers and Mammographers enhancing their practice in the field of reporting.

Introduction

RII is a module that enables Radiographers and Mammographers to enhance their practice in the field of reporting. You will become competent in pattern recognition and image interpretation specific to your own area of practice, be able to effectively formulate diagnoses and communicate your reports both verbally and in writing, and enhance your professional role as a leader within a specialism of radiological reporting.

Method of Assessment

You will be assessed by submission of a Clinical Record of Achievement, OSCE (reporting exam) and Viva Voce to demonstrate your enhanced clinical skills.

• Enhance your professional development within a specialism of radiological reporting
• Be able to effectively formulate diagnoses and communicate your reports both verbally and in writing

Course Structure

RII must be completed alongside our Principles of Advanced Practice and Core Skills for Radiological Reporting modules. Completing the post graduate certificate will enable you to develop your skills to become competent in pattern recognition and image interpretation specific to your own area of practice and to effectively formulate diagnoses and communicate your reports both verbally and in writing.

Workstreams

Current workstreams are MSK and Mammography. Note, Chest reporting is a separate module (Adult Chest Reporting) enabling you to study multiple areas of reporting practice within your PGD or MSc.

Delivery

The module will be delivered using a blended learning approach. Some content will be delivered on campus at the University of Salford within our new imaging facility. The University’s Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard Ultra, will be used for live online tutorials as well as providing students with directed learning resources and access to the library’s extensive databases to complete independent learning.

Support

Our team consists of a team of academic and clinical experts. We collaborate with experienced honorary staff to develop up to date curriculum and student centred learning. You will be supported by an academic personal tutor.

Clinical Mentorship

You will work under the supervision of a clinical mentor at your site to complete a clinical caseload. Your employer must provide a suitably qualified clinical mentor who will provide regular supervision and support you through your course and undertake periodic clinical reviews.

Requirements

• Previous Study and Experience: You will hold a degree in BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or other health care professional qualification, 2:1 or above.
• Clinical Caseload: You will need access to a clinical caseload and this must be arranged in advance, the university are unable to provide a clinical placement.
• Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL): We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.
