Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Physical Health (Level 7, 30 credits)

This module is a theoretical and evidence-based introduction to using CBT with clients who have physical health conditions and those who require chronic disease self-management.

• The theoretical and evidence-based introduction to using CBT with clients who have physical health conditions and those who require chronic disease self-management
• The use of CBT, enabling you to work specifically with clients who require chronic disease self-management
• Therapeutic skills for assessing and managing medically unexplained symptoms
• Effectiveness of CBT interventions for physical health problems and medically unexplained symptoms.

Requirements

What you need to know

This module is relevant to a range of professionals, including counsellors, psychotherapists and psychological therapists and those working in the NHS.

Standard entry requirements

• Previous study and experience
• An upper second class honours degree in psychology or other health/social care related discipline, e.g. counselling, health sciences, nursing.

Alternative entry requirements

• Accreditation of prior learning (APL)

We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.

Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
