Overview
The AP module offers students the opportunity to develop their scope of practice in a specialised area to help meet the needs of an expanding health service. Students will collect a log of cases and critically reflect on their development.

AP may be completed as a standalone module or as part of your PGCert or PGDip.
- Radiographers and Mammographers may be required to also complete the 15 credit Principles of Advanced Practice (PAP) module, this runs in trimester 1.
- Accreditation of prior learning may be possible if you acquired credits at another HEI.
- AP is available as part of our MSc Advanced Medical Imaging.
What will I be doing?
The module will be delivered using a blended learning approach.
- Some content will be delivered on campus at the University of Salford within our new imaging facility.
- The University’s Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard Ultra, will be used for live online tutorials as well as providing students with directed learning resources and access to the library’s extensive databases to complete independent learning.
- Our team consist of a team of academic and clinical experts. We collaborate with experienced honorary staff to develop up to date curriculum and student centred learning.
- You will be supported by an academic personal tutor.
- You will work under the supervision of a clinical mentor at your site to complete a clinical caseload. Your employer must provide a suitably qualified clinical mentor who will provide regular supervision and support you through your course and undertake periodic clinical reviews.

Requirements
What you need to know
- You will need access to a clinical caseload and this must be arranged in advance, the university are unable to provide a clinical placement.
- The minimum clinical requirements are outlined for each workstream in the verification form embedded in the programme webpage, please complete this in full and have it signed off by your mentor and manager before uploading it with your application.
Entry requirements
- Previous study and experience: You will hold a degree in BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or other health care professional qualification, 2:1 or above.
- For clinically related modules, you will also have access to a relevant imaging caseload and support of a clinical mentor. Regrettably, the University of Salford cannot undertake to find a clinical placement for you.
Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
We welcome applications from students who may not have formal/traditional entry criteria but who have relevant experience or the ability to pursue the course successfully.
- The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.
- Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
