Introduction

The prevalence of diabetes has reached epidemic proportions worldwide, with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) projecting a significant increase in cases by 2030 and 2040. This course aims to enable healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to empower people with diabetes to self-manage their condition.


Course Details

The MSc in Diabetes Care is developed in collaboration with national and global experts in diabetes, including specialist diabetes services, primary care diabetes services, community diabetes services, social sciences, maternal and child health services, podiatry, exercise physiology, and dietetics, medical nutritionists, service users, and digital health leads.

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching will take a blended format comprising lectures, seminars, assessment workshops, tutorials, group discussions, practical demonstrations, group and individual presentations, and peer group critiques. Assessment will be through written assignments, practical work in the Simulation Laboratory, poster presentations, and case study presentations.


Employment and Stats

Healthcare practitioners who graduate from this course can be employed in practice, management, education, and research areas in the UK and overseas. Graduates have pursued further research in diabetes or contributed to service improvements in their home countries, thus contributing to better patient outcomes and their own career progressions.


Requirements

  • Suitable for graduate healthcare professionals with an interest in diabetes care
  • Undergraduate degree with honours from a UK University, normally an upper 2nd (2:1) or above degree in an appropriate subject
  • Equivalent academic or professional qualification from the UK or elsewhere
  • International students: IELTS 6.0 with no element below 5.5

Fees

  • Full-time home: £9,100 per year (2025/26)
  • Full-time international: £17,000 per year (2025/26)
