Entry Requirements:
For the MA in Art History:
- Bachelor's degree in Art History or a related field.
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0.
- A strong statement of purpose outlining your research interests and career goals.
- Two letters of recommendation from professors or other academic professionals familiar with your work.
- A writing sample, such as a research paper or a thesis chapter.
For the PhD in Art History:
- Master's degree in Art History or a related field.
- A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.5 and a minimum master's GPA of 3.7.
- A strong statement of purpose outlining your research interests and career goals.
- Three letters of recommendation from professors or other academic professionals familiar with your work. However, the program recommends that students have a strong reading knowledge of at least one foreign language relevant to their area of study.
- For the PhD in Art History: Students must demonstrate proficiency in two foreign languages relevant to their area of study. One language must be French or German, and the other language can be chosen from a variety of options. The program offers language exams to assess proficiency.
- The Department of Art History also offers an interdepartmental concentration in Museum and Exhibition Studies. This concentration is open to students in the MA and PhD in Art History.
