  • Duration: Four to six years (April 2024 and September 2024 starts).

Taught Stage Modules (75 Credits):

  • Introduction to Business and Management Research (15 credits)
  • Applied Research Methods (15 credits)
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods (30 credits)

Research Stage Modules (465 Credits):

  • Portfolio or Thesis: Develop and complete a doctoral thesis under the guidance of academic supervisors, specializing in areas like accounting, law, marketing, strategy, economics, finance, and entrepreneurship.

Content:

  • Year 1: Focus on developing research skills and understanding the philosophy and principles of research.
  • Year 2: Conduct a literature review and explore research methodologies related to your chosen business problem.
  • Year 3-4: Refine your research question, design your study, conduct data collection and analysis, and write your thesis.
  • Year 5-6 (if needed): Further develop and finalize your thesis.

Assessment:

  • Qualifying report: Submitted in month 20, assessed through a viva voce examination with internal examiners.

Entry Requirements:


EU/UK Home Students:

  • A Master's degree in Business or Management (or related subject)
  • Minimum of five years' senior management experience
  • Two references, one of which must be from your current employer
  • A research proposal aligned with your chosen department (Accounting, Law, Marketing and Strategy, Economics, Finance, or Entrepreneurship)
  • A personal statement outlining your motivations for undertaking the program and how your background, qualifications, and experiences will help you meet its demands

International Students (Outside EU):

  • All of the requirements listed above for EU/UK Home Students
  • An official academic transcript and certificate evidencing an MBA, MSc, or MA degree in business or management
  • A copy of your passport
  • Evidence that your Master's degree was taught entirely in English if English is not your first language.
  • Alternatively, you can provide evidence of a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall or an equivalent English language qualification recognized by Aston University, taken within the last two years.
