Introduction to Pharmacy MPharm with Preparatory Year

The Pharmacy MPharm with Preparatory Year is a five-year course designed for students who do not hold the required qualifications to go straight into the MPharm program. This integrated preparatory course opens up opportunities in the sciences for those changing careers, returning to education, or without the necessary A-level subjects.

Entry Criteria

Entry Requirements

  • UCAS tariff: 96 tariff points. Level 3 Key Skills and General Studies will count towards the tariff.
  • A-levels: CCC including two full science A-levels.
  • International Baccalaureate: 26 points, with three Higher level subjects at grade 4. Subjects must include biology and chemistry.
  • Other qualifications: If you have completed an access course or BTEC diploma, we will consider you on an individual basis; relevant experience may also be taken into account.
  • GCSE (minimum grade B or grade 5): At least English and maths.
  • English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 overall with 6.0 in writing and minimum of 5.5 in other elements.

Interview Information

Interviews take place each Wednesday until the end of April and are conducted online using MS Teams. The interview is designed around values-based recruitment (VBR) and may include questions about motivation for a career in pharmacy, why you wish to study at Brighton, and your opinions on healthcare and science.

  • All MPharm students must obtain a valid UK Enhanced DBS certificate at the start of Year 1, which we cover.
  • Students in the first year of the course will be required to attend an Occupational Health clinic.
  • Costs for MPharm placement travel are reimbursed up to a specified amount.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is provided.
  • Essential instruction booklets are provided.
  • The cost of laboratory consumables and equipment for your final year project is included in the fees.
