Program Overview


Introduction to Biomedical Science BSc(Hons)

The Biomedical Science BSc(Hons) course explores the complexities of the human body and develops the knowledge and confidence needed to begin a rewarding career in this field. Students will study biochemistry, pharmacology, genetics and evolution, human physiology, infection science, and blood science. The course also includes project work, hospital visits, and case studies.

Entry Criteria

  • A-levels or BTEC: Entry requirements are in the range of A-level BBBBCC (120104 UCAS Tariff points) or BTEC Extended Diploma DMMMMM. A-levels must include two sciences, preferably biology and chemistry.
  • International Baccalaureate: 26 points, with three subjects at Higher Level. Higher level subjects to include two sciences.
  • Access to HE Diploma: Applications will be considered individually.
  • GCSE (minimum grade C or grade 4): At least three subjects including maths, English language, and a science.
  • Foundation degree/HND: May enable you to start the course in year 2.
  • Studied before or got relevant experience?: If you have suitable qualifications, credits from a previous university course, or relevant professional experience, these could count towards your course at Brighton, and you could start the course in year 2 or 3.
  • English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each element.

Course Content

Year 1

Students will learn the foundations of biomedical science and be introduced to lab techniques used in professional practice. Modules include:

Year 2

Placement Year

Students have the option of a years paid placement after their second year, where they will work in a professional environment. This is a great way to build on the skills developed on the course and gain valuable new ones.


Final Year

In the final year, students will focus on clinical aspects, including blood sciences, cellular pathology, clinical immunology, and microbiology, and innovations in bioscience research. Modules include:
