The Elementary Math Specialist Graduate Certificate program at Marshall University offers educators specialized training in mathematics instruction for elementary students. The Elementary Mathematics Specialist endorsement must be associated with a master's degree. The courses for this endorsement associated with a master's degree are offered through two different pathways:

• Candidates can gain a master's degree in education by taking the required Elementary Mathematics Specialist courses as an area of emphasis along with master's core and capstone courses for a total of 36 hours of course work.
• If the applicant already has a master's degree in education, candidates can gain a graduate certificate by taking only the required Elementary Mathematics Specialist courses for a total of 21 hours of course work.

• Pathway to Endorsement: After finishing the program, candidates can apply for the Elementary Mathematics Specialist endorsement on their current, regular education, teaching license from the WV Department of Education.

• CIME 500 - Math for the Elementary Teacher I: Systems of numeration, sets, relations, binary operations, decimal and other base systems, natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, and real numbers with emphasis on the algebraic structure.
• CIME 555 - Technical Math for Math Educators: Specialized mathematical knowledge for teaching: An in-depth analysis of the foundations of mathematics: numbers and operations, ratio and proportion, and numbering systems, with emphasis on workplace applications and mathematical tools.
• CIME 673 - Elementary Math Methods Practice K-6: Culmination course that provides a setting for examining research-based elementary math methods and leadership, and a supervised practicum teaching experience in an educational field-based environment.
