This is a short course in Minor Injuries Management offered by the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Paramedic Practice at Robert Gordon University. It is designed to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals in managing minor injuries. The course provides 15 credits at SCQF level 9 or 11 and can be used within RGUflex to gain an academic award.
Objectives:
The course aims to:
- Critically appraise professional and legal issues relating to the role of the nurse managing minor injuries.
- Evaluate the implications of the pathophysiological processes for patients presenting with minor injuries.
- Critically appraise the skills required in consultation, history taking and assessment of patients presenting with minor injuries.
- Critically analyse the decision making processes involved in the diagnosis and treatment of minor injuries.
- Synthesize the concepts of evidence based practice that underpin the management of minor injuries through critical reflection.
Assessment:
This course is assessed via a face to face on campus Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
Teaching:
The module is delivered using a mixture of some face to face on campus study days and online methods (including online chat and discussion forums). Students will engage with directed and self-directed learning activities supported by the module team.

- Students are encouraged to arrange a pre-entry visit to discuss any concerns and to view the facilities.
