This module aims to provide students with the opportunity to synthesise and critically apply financial, resource management, and business planning knowledge and skills in order to enhance and develop their service.

Course Outline
Course Summary
The indicative module content includes budget planning and management, complex costing interpretation, interpretation of financial statements, information systems to support financial and resource management, payment by results/tariffs, and the effects of changes in service user activity on financial viability.
On successful completion, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate coherent and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the complex nature of financial and resource management and expenditure
- Provide an in-depth critical analysis of the implications of changes in service user activity on their own service budget and how this affects the financial viability of the organisation
- Demonstrate conceptual knowledge and application of 'payments by results/tariffs' in terms of delivering efficiency gains and their effects on the financial stability of commissioners and providers
- Demonstrate coherent and comprehensive knowledge and critical application of cost-benefit analysis for capital projects, business planning, and decision-making in relation to the development of their service
- Critically discuss the financial and resource management information systems required to support effective finance and resource management in health and social care settings

Timetables
The teaching timetable should be available from the end of August. Access to the timetable is through the Student Hub – students will be able to access the Student Hub after completing online registration. The teaching day is 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; please keep other commitments open until confirmation of the teaching timetable, and bear in mind that many courses will offer placements or fieldwork which sometimes extends into the evenings and weekends.

The closing date for applications is 5 working days prior to the module start date or, if this is the first module, 5 working days prior to the induction date.
