Program Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre program at UCF provides a comprehensive foundation in theatre while allowing for interdisciplinary study through a required minor. Students combine theatre training with a secondary area to create diverse career opportunities. They are assessed through coursework, program review, professional behavior, exit critique, and departmental audit. The program prepares students for careers as actors, directors, playwrights, designers, technicians, educators, and administrators.
Program Outline
The program emphasizes combining theatre training with a secondary area of study to create diverse career opportunities in theatre and the entertainment industry. Upon graduation, students can either enter the job market or pursue advanced education with a skill set tailored to their specific goals.
Assessment:
Students are assessed through various methods, including:
- Coursework: Students must earn a "C" (2.0) or better in each theatre course and maintain a 3.0 GPA for all courses required in the major and all courses taken in theatre.
- Program Review: Students must not receive a negative evaluation in a regularly scheduled program review.
- Professional Behavior: Students must not exhibit chronic unprofessional behavior.
- Exit Critique: Students must write an Exit Critique of a UCF-affiliated production and pass each section evaluated the semester prior to their final semester of theatre classes.
- Departmental Audit: Students must complete a Theatre Department Audit the semester prior to their final semester of theatre classes.

Other:
- Specialization: Students must declare a specialization approved minor, which can be found in the Theatre Student Handbook.
- Double Major: Students who complete a double major fulfill the minor requirement automatically.
- Departmental Residency Requirement: Students must complete at least 30 semester hours of courses taken from the UCF Theatre Department.
- Production Work: All Theatre majors who participate in production work must be registered for the appropriate Theatre Participation course in the term in which they are participating.
- Transfer Credits: The department will accept one credit of Theatre Participation coursework for students transferring into the program. Any additional transfer participation credits will count toward electives.
- Honors in Major: Students interested in completing Honors in the Major should contact their program advisor.
- Advising: After becoming a major, students must consult with a departmental advisor each semester before registering. Students who do not consult with their department advisor will be placed on department probation. Repeated failure to consult with a department advisor may lead to release from the program.
- Transfer Courses: Lower-level transfer courses may substitute for select upper division courses, although they will not count as upper division credits. University minimum upper division credit requirement must still be met. Consult Theatre Undergraduate Coordinator with questions regarding substitutions.
- Equipment Fees: Part-Time Student: $45 per term, Full-Time Student: $90 per term.
