The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program prepares students to become career and workforce education and training leaders. This program is designed for subject matter experts from various industries and businesses, providing them with the skills to teach and train in modern educational and organizational settings.
Program Overview
The BS in Career and Technical Education is a non-licensure program that enables students to become teachers, trainers, and educational leaders in occupation-specific business, technical, trade, or industry career clusters. The program vision is to create an effective and efficient workforce, and its mission is to provide subject matter experts with opportunities to develop course content guided by pedagogical and technological approaches based on FL state and national CTE teaching standards.
Program Details
- The program is offered as an online track and a traditional modality track, which can be completed fully online.
- The program requires a minimum of 120 undergraduate credit hours with at least a "C" average (2.0 GPA) for all UCF course work attempted.
- Students must achieve a minimum 2.0 GPA in all courses within the major, specialization coursework, and education core advanced level coursework.
- The program includes core requirements, technical specialization, restricted electives, and a directed field experience.
Core Requirements
The core requirements consist of 30 total credits, including:
- Introduction to Career and Technical Teaching and Training
- Professional Roles of the Career & Technical Teacher
- General Methods/Testing Evaluation in Career & Technical Education
- Evaluation of Career & Technical Education Instruction
- Special Populations in Career & Technical Education
- Principles and Practices of Technical Education
- Curriculum Development Techniques for Industry Training
- Teaching Adult Learners in Technical Programs
- Safety in the Technical Education Classroom and Laboratory
- Advanced Teaching Techniques for Career Education
Technical Specialization
Students must complete an area of specialization through occupation-specific courses approved by their advisor, earning at least 6 credits.
Restricted Electives
Students must earn at least 21 credits from upper division electives with advisor's approval and a directed field experience.
Directed Field Experience
The directed field experience is a supervised internship that may be completed in an educational or industrial setting, or with the UCF program faculty assisting in teaching web-based courses.
