Degree Overview:

The Architecture and Urban Design Program at the German University in Cairo (GUC) is an internationally recognized program dedicated to advancing and improving the awareness, understanding, and practice of Architecture and Urban Design, both locally and internationally, as an interdisciplinary field of science. The program focuses strongly on Building Technology. The program awards a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urban Design after 10 semesters (5 years).


Objectives:

  • To graduate professional architects who are highly demanded both internationally and locally.
  • To equip graduates with the ability to perform the roles of generalists as well as specialists in different kinds of projects.
  • To equip graduates with the ability to carry out research that serves the industry.
  • To become a role model educational institution with a global scope in Egypt.
  • To prepare students to understand the role of the architect in society, as a maestro conducting the entire building process, including all engineering disciplines.

Outline:

The program is divided into a Basic Module and a Core Module for the first 7 semesters.

  • Basic Module: Lays out and transfers knowledge in artistic, formative, technical, historical, and social studies, as well as basic methodologies for the study and practice of architecture.
  • This includes courses like architectural drawing, freehand drawing and modelling, history of architecture, structural design, CAAD/CAM, and ecology and environmental control systems through lectures, labs, and tutorials.
  • Core Module: Focuses on different levels of design studios and building technology courses, including building construction, building physics, building materials, and technical installations.
  • This module deepens knowledge of core courses, further develops conceptual thinking, and shapes personal profiles. It is achieved through lectures, tutorials, seminars, design studios, excursions, and exchange programs. The 8th semester includes the bachelor thesis/project, which culminates all previous study and displays the student's knowledge and strengths. The 9th and 10th semesters offer two specializations:
  • Architecture and Urban Design
  • Building Technology and Integrated Design

Graduates of the Architecture and Urban Design program are equipped to perform various roles in the field of architecture and urban design, including:
