Degree Overview:
The Graduate Diploma in Inclusive Education is a one-year (two-semester) program offered by the Departments of Psychology and Educational Studies at the American University in Cairo (AUC). It focuses on inclusive education, emphasizing the development and design of schools, classrooms, programs, and activities to enable all students, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, to learn and participate effectively. The program acknowledges the need for inclusive learning environments, recognizing that students with learning difficulties or other challenges should not be excluded from educational opportunities, while also ensuring that gifted and talented students have their potential fully realized.
Careers:
The program equips graduates with broader well-rounded skills in both psychology and education, opening diverse pathways and job opportunities in related sectors. It can also serve as a stepping stone towards a master's or doctorate for educators or psychologists seeking further specialization.
Other:
The program emphasizes the human right to relevant and adequate education for all learners, citing the Convention for the Rights of Disabled Persons, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (both ratified by Egypt), and the Egyptian Constitution, which guarantees access to appropriate educational opportunities for students with learning disabilities and those who are gifted (Articles. 81 and 82, 2014).
