Introduction to the MA in Migration, Mobility and Culture
The MA in Migration, Mobility and Culture is a cutting-edge program that equips graduates with a multi-focal and transnational understanding of the global grand challenge of migration and its relationship to culture, politics, and the social sciences.
Course Outline
The program is a one-year degree that engages students with experts on migration from a range of disciplines, including Sociology, Languages, Literatures, Geography, Law, Applied Social Studies, and Public Health. The MA in Migration, Mobility and Culture requires attendance at lectures and seminars, the writing of course papers, and the completion of other assessed tasks, including presentations.
Migration, Mobility and Culture Modules
The core set of modules introduces students to key concepts needed for understanding migration, including:
- Mobility and globalization
- Intercultural communication
- Cultural transfer and exchange
- Social policy and theory The program also equips students with advanced problem-solving and intercultural skills and critical thinking. Students have the option to study a language, and modules include research training and development, as well as a dissertation/major project in the student's area of choice.

- Theorising the Global: Migration Studies, Postcolonialism, and Critical Theory (10 credits)
- Research Skills in Migration, Mobility and Intercultural Communication (10 credits)
- Im/mobilities: forced migration and belonging (10 credits)
- Migration, Mobilities and Social Policy (10 credits)
- Migration and Material Culture (10 credits) or Metropolis, Mobility and Minorities (10 credits)
- Elective Modules (Choose 10 credits):
- Conceptualising Society, Space and the City (10 credits)
- Migration and Public Health (5 credits)
- Contemporary Global Politics (5 credits)
- Refugee & Forced Displacement Law (10 Credits)
- 10 credits of Language modules or equivalent in CELTA qualification
Part II
- Dissertation/Major project in Migration, Mobility and Culture (30 credits)
- Multilingual Cork: Creating a Transnational Interview Archive (30 credits)
Course Practicalities

Fees and Costs
The EU fee for this course is Full-time: 8,100 Part-time: 4,700. The Non-EU fee is 18,500.
