The Quantity Surveying BSc (Hons) degree is a 3-year full-time program, offered with part-time and degree apprenticeship options.

  • Navigate for Professional Engineers: This module introduces students to their course learning aims, anticipated learning targets, and personal academic journey.
  • It focuses on developing academic skills aligned with Kingston University's Graduate Attributes and the professional body's learning outcomes. It also explores the fundamentals of management and economic theory, professional ethics, and rules of conduct.

Year 2:

This year focuses on more complex commercial structures, cost-planning techniques, contract law, and the pre/post-contract financial and contract administration duties of a quantity surveyor. It also introduces students to digitization in construction (using REVIT and BIM-related software) and construction technology, including environmental services. It covers BIM, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, geographic information systems, BIM software, collaboration techniques, and project delivery methods. It broadens students' knowledge of how organizations undertake and monitor projects. Students develop cost management techniques and skills for cost planning based on elemental analysis and the relationship between building morphology and costs.


Year 3:

This year builds upon previous learning, focusing on consultancy and project management, the consultant-client relationship, organizational change management, project control, and project team leadership. It culminates in a major group project and an independent research project. It encourages interactions with professional and learning communities beyond the university.

  • Professional Quantity Surveying Practice (Consultancy): This module integrates previous knowledge and skills, developing a deeper understanding of cross-subject synergies.
  • Individual Project: This module allows students to explore a subject of their own choice and conduct a small-scale research project under supervision.
  • Year 1: Assessments are 81% coursework and 19% practical.
  • Year 2: Assessments are 88% coursework and 12% practical.
  • Year 3: Assessments are 78% coursework, 12% exams, and 10% practical.
