Program Overview

This two-year Master of Landscape Architecture program, accredited by the Landscape Institute, prepares students for careers in landscape architecture through a combination of design projects, research, and professional practice modules. Students benefit from collaboration with experienced practitioners, site visits, and access to purpose-designed studios, culminating in a research-based design thesis. Graduates are equipped for roles such as Senior Landscape Architect and Director.

Program Outline

This course is a two-year Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) degree program accredited by the Landscape Institute (LI). Live design projects will be reviewed by clients and may be the subject of community consultation. All design reviews are performed with the participation of leading landscape architects among the critics.


Outline:

The program is structured as follows:


Year 1:

  • Landscape Architecture: Primer (60 credits): This module introduces students to the breadth of knowledge, skills, and experiences required for landscape architecture studies.
  • It includes workshop-lab exercises led by specialist practitioners, culminating in a Landscape Architecture Primer document.
  • Landscape Architecture: Portfolio (60 credits): This module focuses on developing a creative portfolio of design projects.
  • Students undertake research, analyze site and context, and develop a strategic design approach. It emphasizes the integration of professional and technical issues within the design process.

Year 2:

  • Landscape Architecture Professional Practice: Design & Making (30 credits): This module focuses on the ethical, regulatory, financial, and professional aspects of landscape architecture practice.
  • Students gain knowledge of materials, construction, and aftercare, employing techniques for resilience, adaptation, and green and blue infrastructures.
  • Landscape Architecture: Reading, Research and Narrative (30 credits): This module explores historical, contemporary, and visionary ideas in landscape architecture and urbanism.
  • Students develop their research skills, explore the concept and theory of research methodologies, and apply critical knowledge to inform their design practice.
  • Landscape Architecture: Thesis Project (60 credits): This module is the capstone project, culminating in a research-based design thesis.
  • Students develop individual ambitions, explore relationships between landscape practice and related disciplines, and articulate their developing position as landscape architects and professionals.
