This online course is designed to prepare legal professionals for the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) SQE2 assessments. It aims to develop the six legal skills necessary to pass SQE2 and revise the functioning legal knowledge already acquired. The course offers flexibility to study online at your own pace (typically 10 hours per week) over thirty learning weeks.

Outline:

• Pre-course study: Students are required to complete a pre-study online diagnostic test to check their understanding of key academic law subjects, known as the Functioning Knowledge Quiz.
This test ensures students' knowledge of core academic principles is up to date.
• Modules: The course covers the six legal skills outlined in the SRA's assessment specification:
• Client interviewing:
Prepping and conducting an interview with a client, producing an attendance note recording a client interview and initial legal analysis.
• Advocacy: Planning for and conducting a piece of advocacy before a judge.
• Case and matter analysis: Producing a written report to a partner giving legal advice.
• Legal research: Conducting legal research from a variety of paper and electronic resources.
• Legal writing: Producing a letter or email as the solicitor acting in a matter, which clearly and correctly applies the law.
• Legal drafting: Drafting full or part legal documents, use of precedents.
• Course Structure: Each unit follows a dynamic learning model: Prepare, Engage, Consolidate (PEC).
• Prepare: Includes manual reading, multi-media, preparatory tasks, and test your knowledge quizzes (approximately six hours).
• Engage: Students undertake learning activities in the virtual learning environment, applying knowledge or practicing skills acquired in the Prepare stage (approximately two hours).
This stage is delivered through asynchronous learning activities and LSSSs (Lecturer-led Subject Support Sessions).
• Consolidate: Students complete consolidation learning activities in the virtual learning environment (approximately two hours).
• Mock Assessments: Mocks for each of the written skills are released after unit 3 of each written skill.
Mocks for the oral skills are scheduled in one of the weeks after unit 3 and before unit 5 of that oral skill.

Assessment:

• No formal University of Law exams: The course includes mock SQE2 assessments throughout to track progress and prepare for the real assessments.
• SQE2 Assessments: Students sit their written SQE assessments at Pearson VUE test centers in the UK and internationally, and their oral SQE assessments at one of four locations in the UK.
• SQE2 Exam Structure: The 16 SQE2 assessments are each set in one of five practice areas studied in SQE1:
• Criminal practice (including advising clients at the police station)
• Dispute resolution
• Property practice
• Wills and intestacy, probate administration and practice
• Business organisations, rules and procedures (including money laundering and financial services)
• SQE2 Exam Parts: The SQE2 exam is divided into two parts:
• SQE2 Oral assessment:
Over two days.
• Written assessment: Over three days.
