This double master's degree is unique in Australia, offering a blend of business and translation studies. It equips students with the skills to succeed in a multilingual commercial world. The program combines professional translation training in English and one of eight Asian and European languages with a commerce specialization. This combination makes graduates bilingual professionals with a broad range of employment opportunities in national and international settings.
Objectives:
- Develop linguistic proficiency in English and another language through translation practice across various text types related to business contexts.
- Acquire intercultural awareness through research, expert consultation, and immersion in English-speaking and/or foreign cultures.
- Learn to collaborate with translation and management professionals, becoming a connected specialist within a business community.
- Develop the capacity to advise business developers in a global, multilingual context.
Teaching:
- The program is taught by leading practitioners and scholars in business and translation studies.
- It provides a unique opportunity to develop linguistic abilities and breadth across selected commerce areas, including accounting, business information and logistics management, economics, employment relations, finance, human resource management, or marketing.
- Students receive specialized and advanced translation training between English and one of eight languages.
- The curriculum includes training in interpreting (spoken translation).
- Students can choose between two pathways within the Master of Translation Studies: coursework only or coursework and dissertation, which allows for progression to a PhD.
- Cognate studies related to business or translation at the undergraduate level can shorten the program duration to two-and-a-half years (coursework pathway) instead of three years.
- The course structure comprises core units and electives, allowing students to tailor their degree based on their interests and career aspirations.

- Students are encouraged to participate in a six-week work placement as a translator in Australia or overseas.
- The program offers eight specializations, one for each language pair, and the following specializations for the commerce side: accounting, business information and logistics management, economics, employment relations, finance, human resource management, or marketing.
Entry Requirements:
To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have - (1) a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and (a) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 65 per cent in the Level 3 units of a relevant major; or (b) at least two years professional experience in a relevant occupation; or (c) completed a Graduate Certificate in Finance, or Graduate Certificate in Human Resources and Employment Relations, or Graduate Certificate in Business Information and Logistics Management, or Graduate Certificate in Commerce, or Graduate Certificate in Marketing, or Graduate Certificate in Economics at UWA. and (2)(a) demonstrated native or near-native proficiency in the chosen language specialisation; or Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
