Program Overview


The Psychological and Behavioural Sciences single major provides a comprehensive understanding of human thoughts, behaviours, and their underlying psychological processes. Through a core curriculum that covers cognitive and neural processes, research methods, lifespan development, and social relationships, students develop a strong scientific foundation in psychology. The program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council and prepares students for further studies towards registration as provisional psychologists.

Degree Overview:

This major provides a core understanding of the scientific discipline of psychology. You will develop an understanding of the cognitive and neural processes underlying behaviour; research methods in psychology; the measurement of psychological behaviour and abilities; the development of knowledge and abilities across the lifespan; and the processes that govern the relationships between people and groups in a multicultural society. The Psychological and Behavioural Sciences single major will develop your scientific understanding of human thoughts and behaviours, the psychological processes underlying these and the relationship of these processes to brain function. You will find an emphasis on the measurement of psychological abilities, how these develop through the lifespan and the processes that govern the relationships between people and groups in a multicultural society. You will also develop an understanding of how psychological processes are affected by ageing, brain damage and disease.
