The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a teacher preparation program designed for university graduates seeking a rewarding career in education. This course provides an in-depth knowledge of the theory and practical skills required for secondary teaching. It aims to equip graduates with the skills, understandings, and professional competencies to practice as inspiring, flexible, and ethical educators who support all students to reach their full potential. It is offered in February (non-standard teaching period). The program is structured around four teaching periods that align closely to school terms.

- Core Units: All students must complete 66 points of core units, including:
- EDUC5000 National Literacy and Numeracy Test (0 points)
- EDUC5112 Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) (6 points)
- EDUC5410 General Capabilities Across the Curriculum (6 points)
- EDUC5429 Perspectives in Aboriginal Education (6 points)
- EDUC5515 Research for Learning in Years 7-12 (6 points)
- EDUC5531 Learning and Assessment in Years 7-12 (6 points)
- EDUC5535 Professional Practice A Secondary (6 points)
- EDUC5536 Professional Practice B Secondary (6 points)
- EDUC5537 Child and adolescent development and pedagogy (6 points)
- EDUC5538 Classroom Management and Student Wellbeing (6 points)
- EDUC5539 Diverse Learners in Inclusive Classrooms (6 points)
- EDUC5618 Embedding Digital Literacies Across the Curriculum (6 points)
- Major: All students must complete a major, which comprises one Curriculum I unit and one Curriculum II unit. Students pursuing a major in English, Languages Curriculum Education, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, or Music must complete two relevant curriculum units from Groups A – G. Students undertaking a major in music must also complete MUSC4711 and MUSC4712 from Group H.
- Minor: Students may elect to complete a minor (subject to approval in their course offer), which comprises one Curriculum I unit and one Curriculum II unit. Students doing a minor must complete the two relevant curriculum units from Groups A – G.
- Group H: All students, with the exception of Music majors, will need to complete EDUC5549 Contemporary Pedagogies and Practices from Group H. Students pursuing a major only will need to complete EDUC5468 Inclusive teaching of at-risk students and EDUC5616 International and Comparative Education from Group H.

Graduates of the Master of Teaching (Secondary) are eligible to register with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) and are legally employed as teachers. They can work in government and independent schools, both nationally and internationally.
Other:
- The course is subsidized by the Australian Government as a Commonwealth supported place (CSP).
- There is a shortage of secondary English, Mathematics, and Physics teachers in Australian schools, so students with qualifications in those areas are particularly encouraged to consider a career in teaching.
- The program offers flexibility for students to balance work and studies, including the opportunity to study part-time, a range of units taught after hours, and the option to learn via intensive units.
- The program provides industry connections and hands-on opportunities to prepare students for success in their teaching careers.
- The program includes a Commonwealth Teaching Scholarship provided by the Department of Education for eligible new full-time students.
