Traditional Track:

  • Requires 18-19 credits in mathematics courses.
  • Includes:
  • MATH 1950 CALCULUS I (5 credits)
  • MATH 1960 CALCULUS II (4 credits)
  • MATH 2030 DISCRETE MATHEMATICS (or CSCI 2030 MATHEMATICAL FOUNDATIONS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE) (3 credits) or MATH 2230 INTRODUCTION TO ABSTRACT MATH
  • One 3000-4000 level Math/Stat course (3 credits)
  • One additional math course 1970 or above (3-4 credits)

Discrete Mathematics Track:

  • Requires 17 credits in mathematics courses.
  • Includes:
  • MATH 1940 CALCULUS FOR BIOMEDICINE (5 credits) or MATH 1950 CALCULUS I
  • MATH 2030 DISCRETE MATHEMATICS (3 credits)
  • Two Mathematics courses from the following (6 credits):
  • MATH 3640 MODERN GEOMETRY
  • MATH 4010 INTRODUCTION TO THE THEORY OF RECURSIVE FUNCTIONS
  • MATH 4030 MODERN ALGEBRA
  • MATH 4150 GRAPH THEORY & APPLICATIONS
  • MATH 4560 NUMBER THEORY & CRYPTOGRAPHY
  • MATH 4760 TOPICS IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS

Cybersecurity Track:

  • Requires 17-18 credits in mathematics courses.
  • Includes:
  • MATH 1950 CALCULUS I (5 credits)
  • MATH 2050 APPLIED LINEAR ALGEBRA (3 credits)
  • MATH 2230 INTRODUCTION TO ABSTRACT MATH (3 credits)
  • MATH 4560 NUMBER THEORY & CRYPTOGRAPHY (3 credits)
  • One additional MATH/STAT course at MATH 1960 level or higher (3-4 credits)

Other:

  • All coursework must be completed with a grade of C- or better.
  • At least one MATH course 3000-level or higher or STAT course 3800 level or higher must be completed at UNO to establish residency.
  • ECEN 3050 will count towards the Mathematics Minor for Engineering majors.
  • Some disciplines require few, if any, additional math courses beyond what is required for the major.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:

  • Academic Requirements: Applicants for the MLitt should normally have a good first degree in philosophy, such as a UK upper Second Class Honours degree or its equivalent (or the equivalent level of pass in the SASP Conversion Diploma).
  • Applicants with other qualifications may be admitted on the recommendation of the Programme Director.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • If English is not your first language you must have one of the following qualifications as evidence of your English language skills:
  • IELTS Academic or UKVI 7.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-skill
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) 185 overall with a minimum of 169 in each sub-skill
  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE) 185 overall with a minimum of 169 in each sub-skill
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) 67 overall with a minimum of 60 in each sub-skill
  • IBT TOEFL 94 overall with 18 in reading, 23 in writing, 19 in listening and 21 in speaking
