Program Overview


Injury and Violence Prevention Certificate Program

Overview

The Injury and Violence Prevention Certificate Program is designed to provide students with specialized training in the prevention, analysis, and control of intentional and unintentional injuries. This program is available to JHU students only.


Educational Objectives

Upon completion of the certificate program, students will be able to:


  1. Describe and explain the importance of injury and/or violence as a major public health problem
  2. Access, interpret, use, and present injury and/or violence data
  3. Use problem-solving methodology to identify and develop appropriate intervention strategies
  4. Evaluate injury and/or violence prevention activities
  5. Develop, synthesize, and apply knowledge by compiling an integrated program plan to address an injury and/or problem of interest
  6. Stimulate change related to injury and/or violence prevention through policy, enforcement, advocacy, and education
  7. Disseminate information on injury and/or violence prevention to the community, policymakers, leaders, and other key stakeholders
  8. Acquire in-depth knowledge, skills, and best practices necessary to address at least one specific injury and/or violence prevention topic and one type of intervention strategy

Requirements for Successful Completion

To complete the certificate program, students must:


  • Complete at least 20 credit hours among the required and elective courses
  • Maintain a 2.75 or better overall GPA for all certificate coursework
  • Complete the certificate program within three years
  • Submit a Notification of Completion to the Registrar
