About this module
This course is accredited by the Institute of Acoustics. This recognition, coupled with over 25 years’ experience of delivering short courses in acoustics, means we have the knowledge and expertise to support you in this course.
Because we know that many of you will be working and will be taking this course as part of your professional development, we may be able to hold the course at your place of work for your convenience.
This course is divided into six key areas:
- Basic Concepts of Noise
- Measurement and Instrumentation for Noise Assessment
- Noise Exposure Assessment
- Hearing, Hearing Loss Measurement and Protection
- Overview of Legal Aspects
- Noise Reduction Techniques
Who is this course for
If you have health and safety responsibilities at work or you work in noise consultancy, this course is for you. It’s a practical, week-long course during which you’ll undertake a risk assessment of noise exposures in the workplace.
No formal qualifications are required. Successful completion of the course can lead to technical membership of the Institute of Acoustics.

The course will take five full-time days to complete.
Assessment
You’ll take a practical and a written exam. You’ll need to pass both to gain the Institute of Acoustics Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Assessment.

- The cost of the course is £1,300 (inc. £285 IOA Reg fee) - Academic year 2021/22.
