Program Overview


Participants will learn about the objectives of mix design, desirable mix properties, and mix types and practical considerations. They will also gain an understanding of performance based specifications, quality assurance, production testing, and interpretation of test results. The course is ideal for engineers and supervisors from consulting firms, local authorities, and technical staff from contracting firms who are involved in the decision making process for mix types vs location and/or laboratory technicians.

Degree Overview:

The BA in Sustainability Studies focuses on global environmental issues in suburban and urban areas. Specific themes include sustainability management and benchmarking, green entrepreneurialism, suburban and urban environments and ecosystems, international development, and community development and planning. Students can develop unique interdisciplinary curricula by selecting electives based on their own interests, in consultation with their sustainability studies adviser. Students enrolling in this major should meet with the department chair to plan their program of study prior to registering for courses.

  • SBLY 002 - (IS) Sustainability Planning and Policy: This course examines the development and implementation of sustainability policies and plans.
  • SBLY 105 - Seminar on Sustainability: This seminar explores current issues and challenges in sustainability.
  • SBLY 110 - Sustainability Studio: This studio provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge of sustainability to real-world projects.
  • GEOL 005 - (NS) Environmental Geology: This course examines the geological processes that influence the environment.
  • SBLY 180 - Sustainability Internship (minimum of 3 semester hours): This internship provides students with practical experience in the field of sustainability.
  • One other 3 s.h.
  • SBLY course: Note: SBLY 105 and SBLY 110 make up a capstone course sequence that is taken in the fall and spring of the senior year.
  • SBLY 105 must be taken prior to enrolling in SBLY 110.
