The PGCert in Medical and Health Education consists of three units:

It encourages participants to critically reflect on developments in their own discipline area and analyze their role as a teacher and assessor of students.
• The Art and Science of Teaching: This unit focuses on applying evidence-based principles to individual teaching practice.
It explores curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and the importance of interprofessional education, leadership, mentoring, and professionalism.
• Pass or Fail, Who Decides?
• : This unit examines current assessment practices within the context of the participant's discipline.

Course Structure:

The course is designed to be completed alongside work commitments. Each unit is delivered over 11 weeks, with the first eight weeks dedicated to online learning, tutor and peer-led discussions, live and recorded tutorials, and independent reading and study. The final two weeks are dedicated to assignment preparation and submission.

Course Schedule:

• September 2024 entry: Academic teaching starts on September 2, 2024.
The welcome event and induction take place one week before the academic teaching start date.

Assessment:

Each unit is assessed through a variety of methods, including presentations, papers, and other coursework, both individually and in groups. Assessments are tailored to the specific learning objectives of each unit and allow participants to demonstrate their ability to gather and critically analyze relevant information to form logical, coherent arguments.

Teaching:

The course is delivered 100% online and is designed to be flexible to suit participants' lifestyles. Teaching and learning methods include videos, webinars, online learning exercises, discussion boards, tutorials, and reflective activities. Participants are assigned a Study Advisor who provides support throughout their studies.
