Program Overview


MSc Biomaterials

Overview

The MSc Biomaterials program provides thorough training in current clinically-used biomaterials. The program is accredited by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and is ranked 4th in the UK, and in the top 25 in the world, for Materials Science (QS World Rankings 2023).


Entry Requirements

  • A UK 2.2 Honours degree or overseas equivalent in an engineering, physical or biological sciences or mathematical subject (i.e. Materials Science, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, Biomaterials, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering or Chemistry etc.).
  • Nutrition, Health Sciences and other backgrounds may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Application and Selection

  • Apply online.
  • A staged admissions process is in place, with selection deadlines throughout the year.
  • A deposit payment of £1,000 is required to confirm a place, with refunds only given for a limited number of reasons.

Course Details

  • Duration: 12 months (full-time)
  • Full-time distance learning and part-time options are not available.
  • The program is taught in the Home of Engineering and Materials, a purpose-built space for innovation and creativity.

Fees

  • For entry in the academic year beginning September 2025:
    • MSc (full-time): £14,000 (UK students), £37,500 (International, including EU, students)
  • Fees are subject to yearly review and incremental rises per annum.
  • Self-funded international applicants will be required to pay a deposit of £1000 towards their tuition fees before a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CAS) is issued.
