Mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement
Overview
Develop subject knowledge in mathematics and prepare to teach the subject effectively to learners aged 11-16 on this flexible free enhancement course for those with an offer of a place on our PGCE in Secondary Mathematics.
What You'll Study
- Course content
- Number: structure and calculation; fractions, decimals and percentages; measures and accuracy.
- Algebra: notation, vocabulary and manipulation; graphs; solving equations and inequalities; sequences.
- Ratio, proportion and rates of change
- Geometry and Measures: properties and constructions; mensuration and calculation; vectors.
- Probability.
- Statistics.
- Develop an understanding of the connections that exist between topics in mathematics.
How You'll Study
- The course structure and length will be flexible to reflect your individual needs.
- The course is divided into individual units, each requiring 50 hours of learning time, normally within a space of two weeks.
- This learning will be a blend of face-to-face sessions, online learning, and supported self-study, with at least one evening a week on campus.
How You'll Be Assessed
- There are no formal examinations.
- You will build a reflective portfolio from directed activities.
Entry Criteria
- You may apply for the course if you have been offered a place on the PGCE Secondary Mathematics with QTS (11-16) at Edge Hill University.
- A Level Mathematics (or equivalent) is also required.
