Sports Therapy MSc
Overview
The MSc Sports Therapy program at Edge Hill University is designed to help sports therapy graduates advance their knowledge and skills in the field. The program includes 200 hours of hands-on professional experience, which is carefully selected to align with the student's career goals. Advanced Professional Practice
This module provides an opportunity for students to apply theory to practice in applied and vocational settings. Students will undertake a concerted period of professional experience within the sport and exercise environment, which will help them develop their practical competencies, self-confidence, clinical reasoning, and adaptability.

Advanced Research Project
This module enables students to engage in an in-depth advanced research project, specializing in a relevant area of interest. The project will be written up in the form of a journal article, and students may have the opportunity to disseminate their findings to external audiences.

Contemporary Issues in Clinical Practice
This module develops employability skills and confidence in managing patients and athletes as a graduate sports therapist. Students will develop their contemporary clinical skills and enhance their understanding of the multidisciplinary considerations required to achieve a tailored approach to athlete and patient management plans.

Critical Issues in Strength and Conditioning
This module involves the critical analysis and application of contemporary practices in strength and conditioning research. Students will explore the need for different strength and conditioning approaches and programs, depending on athletes' needs.

Mental Health Awareness for Performance Sport Athletes and Practitioners
This module develops students' awareness of mental health and illness among performance sport athletes and practitioners. Students will consider how mental health can be understood in performance sport settings and explore the ways in which groups can effectively address the mental health needs of performance sport athletes.

How You'll Study
Learning and teaching methods include lectures, small group seminars, tutorials, workshops, taught practical sessions, and ICT-based learning. In addition, there will be fieldwork, directed independent study, and supervised individual research.
How You'll Be Assessed
You will be assessed through essays, projects, and lab reports, critical analysis of papers, and poster presentations. You will also deliver practical workshop sessions and undertake independent research.
Who Will Be Teaching You
The Sports Therapy team are highly experienced and enthusiastic, with a real commitment to teaching sports therapy. Staff are actively involved in national and international research and consultancy projects that influence the development of sports therapy and feed directly into the course.
Entry Criteria
You should have a degree equivalent to UK first-class or upper second-class honors (2:1 or above) in sports therapy, accredited by the Society of Sports Therapists. GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics at Grade C or Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) are also required.
English Language Requirements
International students require IELTS 6.5, with a score no lower than 6.0 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.
Facilities
The Department of Sport and Physical Activity places a strong emphasis on practical work, underpinned by outstanding facilities. There are dedicated laboratories in performance analysis, biomechanics, physiology, psychology, musculoskeletal, biochemistry, vision analysis, sleep, exercise, and performance, and functional rehabilitation, as well as a sports therapy clinic.
