What You'll Study

Year 1

• Introductory Curriculum (Primary Education): Guide to the ITE curriculum, detailing key knowledge and skills required for QTS.
• Introduction to Foundation Subjects: Develop professional subject knowledge for primary foundation subjects.
• Introduction to the Core Subjects: Develop professional subject knowledge for primary English, mathematics, and science.
• Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND): Explore supporting learners with SEND, creating an inclusive learning environment.

Year 2

• Developmental Curriculum (Primary Education): Guide to the ITE curriculum, detailing key knowledge and skills required for QTS.
• Developing Foundation Subject Knowledge: Enhance subject knowledge across all foundation subjects.
• Developing Core Subject Knowledge: Enhance subject knowledge across the primary core subjects.
• Impact Through Effective Subject Leadership: Develop understanding of leadership at different scales in primary schools.

Year 3

• Beyond the Core Curriculum - The Next Generation: Secure subject, pedagogical, and curriculum knowledge for English, mathematics, and science.
• Consolidation Curriculum (Primary Education): Consolidate school experience and university-based teaching sessions.
• Curriculum Design for the Foundation Subject: Take a critical stance on curriculum design to ensure progression for all learners.
• Teaching as a Research Informed Practice: Introduce the practicalities of a small-scale empirical study, including a proposal.

How You'll Study

• Lectures, seminars, workshop sessions, and tutorials delivered on campus.
• Use of the virtual learning environment.
• Independent study supported by materials provided through the virtual learning environment.
• Intensive Training and Practice (ITAP) as a specific and focused element of teacher training curriculum.

How You'll Be Assessed

• Assessment strategies include submitting portfolios of school-based work, written assignments, in-class tests and audits, poster presentations, and group and individual oral presentations.
• School-based mentor will assess development through reflective conversations, reviewing and discussing planning and assessment records, observing teaching, and gathering perspectives of other adults and children.

Entry Criteria

• Typical offer 112-120 UCAS Tariff points, for which no specific subjects are required.
• GCSE English Language or English Literature, GCSE Mathematics, and GCSE Science at Grade C or Grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
• Commitment to, and understanding of, primary education, demonstrating personal attributes, values, and motivation required to train as a teacher.
