Psychology (Conversion) MSc
Overview
The MSc Psychology Conversion is a postgraduate program designed for graduates from disciplines other than psychology. The program provides students with the opportunity to obtain the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS), which is the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist.

What You'll Study
The program covers the core areas of psychology as specified by the British Psychological Society for the accreditation of conversion courses. Students will study the following modules:

- Psychology Masters (Conversion) Dissertation
- Research Methods and Data Analysis
- Social Psychology
How You'll Study
Teaching methods include traditional lectures, tutorials, seminars, and workshops. Students will also have the opportunity to work with experts on their latest research projects.
How You'll Be Assessed
Most modules are assessed by a mixture of examination and coursework, though some are assessed solely by coursework. Coursework assignments may include essays, research project reports, group presentations, or the critical analysis of research papers.
Who Will Be Teaching You
The Department of Psychology has approximately 35 academic members of staff who teach across the psychology programs. The program team are all research active, particularly in the areas of thinking and reasoning, work psychology, psychological aspects of substance abuse, counseling, close relationships, and the functioning of working memory.
Entry Criteria
- A degree equivalent to UK first-class or second-class honors (2:2 or above) in a subject other than psychology or a psychology degree that does not confer eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Registration of the British Psychological Society.
- International students require IELTS 6.5, with a score no lower than 6.0 in each individual component, or an equivalent English language qualification.

Facilities
The £6 million Law and Psychology building provides contemporary teaching and learning facilities for students in the Department of Psychology and the School of Law, Criminology, and Policing. The building includes a 250-seat lecture theater, seminar and tutorial rooms, and social learning areas.
Finance
- UK Full-Time: £9,250 per year
- UK Part-Time: £51 per credit for 180 credits
- International: £17,000 for the course
Your Future Career
The MSc Psychology Conversion is accredited with the British Psychological Society as conferring eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) provided the minimum mark of at least 50% is achieved. This is the first step towards becoming a chartered psychologist. Graduates can pursue careers in educational psychology, clinical psychology, work psychology, health psychology, teaching, and research.
