This course will give you the opportunity to combine your initiative, numeracy skills, and detailed subject knowledge to make modern industry work better for us all. Mechanical engineering plays a vital role in many industries, including aerospace, manufacturing, medicine, renewable energy, and Formula 1.

Course Information

This course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of demonstrating in full, the underpinning knowledge and understanding required for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Entry Requirements

• A Levels: A*AA / AAAB
• IB Score: 36 Points overall or 766 in 3 Higher Level Certificates
• GCSE English: Grade 4 (C)
• Excluded Subjects: General Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies, CIE Global Perspectives and Research, CIE Thinking Skills

• Applicants whose backgrounds or personal circumstances have impacted their academic performance may receive a reduced offer.

Year in Industry

• The fourth year of this course is spent in industry.
• You will receive support in applying for a year-long placement with an appropriate company.
• During the placement, you will significantly enhance your engineering knowledge and skills.

Language Study

• You may be able to choose to study a language as part of this degree.
• Learning another language can open career opportunities around the globe and enriches your CV.

Additional Costs

• Books: You can access all the essential course books through our libraries, and there is usually no need to purchase your own copies.
• Printing: There is little need to print as coursework is submitted online and teaching materials provided electronically.
• Trips: The department covers the travel cost of compulsory field trips.
• PPE: This course does not require PPE items to be bought.
• Industrial Year: Any costs associated with your industrial placement year, including travel or accommodation, will need to be factored in as they are not covered by your fees.

Tuition Fees

• The UK Government has confirmed that the maximum tuition fee for full-time UK undergraduate and Initial Teacher Training students studying in England will increase to £9,535 for the 2025/26 academic year.
