Mathematics with a Year in Industry MMath

Overview

This MMath degree gives you the chance to learn more about the exciting research our academics are working on, whilst equipping you with the knowledge and skills to carry out your own research. You'll develop your skills in problem solving and analysis, and enhance and develop your transferable skills in project work, group study and presentations, then apply them in the workplace during your year in industry.

  • Year 2: Complex Analysis, Real Analysis, Algebra and Number Theory, Classical and Quantum Mechanics, Methods for Differential Equations, Markov Chains, Methods for Probability and Statistics, Scientific Computation, Linear Models, Vector Calculus and Electromagnetism
  • Year 3: Mathematics Group Projects, Advanced Quantum Theory, Applied Statistical Modelling, Coding and Cryptography, Communicating Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics and Graph Theory, Electromagnetism, Fluid Dynamics, Game Theory, Mathematical Finance, Mathematical Medicine and Biology, Multivariate Analysis, Optimisation, Relativity, Scientific Computation and Numerical Analysis, Statistical Inference, Stochastic Models
  • Year 4: Year in Industry

Entry Requirements

  • A Levels: AAA/AAA/AAB
  • IB Score: 34 points overall or 666 in HL certificates
  • GCSEs: English 4 (C) or equivalent
  • Excluded Subjects: General studies, critical thinking, citizenship studies, thinking skills, global perspectives and research
  • Alternative Qualifications: Access to HE Diploma, Advanced Diploma, BTEC HND/HNC, BTEC Extended Diploma

  • Books: You should be able to access most of the books you'll need through our libraries, though you may wish to purchase your own copies.
  • Printing: Due to our commitment to sustainability, we don't print lecture notes but these are available digitally.
  • Equipment: To support your studies, the university recommends you have a suitable laptop to work on when on or off campus.

  • School Scholarships: We offer an international orientation scholarship of £2,000 to the best international (full-time, non EU) applicants on this course.
