Chinese/English Translation and Interpreting MA

Overview

The Chinese/English Translation and Interpreting MA course is designed to help you develop the skills employers need in the language services industry. Our staff are translation specialists who are experts in translation, business and community interpreting, audiovisual translation, and digital translation technology.


Course Details

Course Content

  • Core Modules:
    • Targeted Translation / AVT / Localisation Project (60 credits)
    • Translator's Toolbox (20 credits)
    • Practical Translation (20 credits)
  • Optional Modules:
    • Bi-lateral Interpreting between Chinese and English (20 credits)
    • Bi-lateral Interpreting between Chinese and English 2 (10 credits)
    • Chinese-English Community Interpreting (20 credits)

Learning and Assessment

  • Teaching Methods: Seminars, tutorials, workshops
  • Assessment Methods: Dissertation, essay, coursework, presentation, exams
  • Contact Time: 20 hours per module, with additional self-study time

Entry Requirements

  • Home/UK Students: 2:1 undergraduate degree in English, English studies, or translation (for native Chinese speakers), or Chinese language and/or Chinese studies for non-native Chinese speakers
  • EU/International Students: 2:1 undergraduate degree in English, English studies, or translation (for native Chinese speakers), or Chinese language and/or Chinese studies for non-native Chinese speakers
