Degree Overview:

This MA in Education (part-time) is designed for teachers who lead busy lives and need a flexible program. It is a two-year program with monthly twilight sessions. The program aims to provide teachers with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Develop their teaching practice
  • Build their professional confidence
  • Boost their promotion prospects
  • The program focuses on:
  • Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)
  • Social justice and gender in education settings
  • Policy and practice addressing inclusion, diversity, and the awarding gap of pupils facing deprivation
  • Students will explore child-friendly research methods and apply their learning to their final research project.

Outline:

The part-time MA is designed for busy professionals, with taught sessions taking place on selected Wednesday twilights over two years. Learning is closely linked to your own professional practice and interests. You may be able to import credit from prior academic or professional learning, which will be discussed at interview.

  • Year 1: Three 30-credit modules
  • Year 2: One 30-credit module, plus a 60-credit dissertation

Teaching:

  • Taught sessions take place on selected Wednesday twilights over two years.
  • Learning is closely linked to your own professional practice and interests.
  • Students will explore child-friendly research methods such as drama, art, observation, and interviews.

Careers:

  • Graduates will return to the classroom confident and resilient, with a new and improved teaching toolkit.
  • Graduates will have the skills to lead changes within schools.
  • The degree fits well with the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Other:

  • The UK Government’s Master’s Loan is only available for full, standalone Masters courses.
  • Students with Advanced Standing are not eligible for this funding.
  • The University will make all reasonable efforts to provide the courses, services, and facilities described in the prospectus.
  • However, if material changes are necessary, students will be notified as soon as possible.
  • Students must be working or volunteering for at least five hours a week in education or a related field.
