Program Description
The Media Management Certificate provides students interested in non-production careers a credential that will be useful in seeking entry-level employment in the electronic media industry. This certificate teaches students the strategies and economics to thrive behind the scenes in the industry.

Media Management Certificate Highlights
- We're an institutional member of the Broadcast Education Association, Texas Association of Broadcast Educators, and the University Film and Video Association.
- UNT Short Film Club offers many great ways to get involved, from coming to our meetings and weekly workshops, participating in our filmmaking challenges, and attending guest speaker lectures, to working on our SFC official & independent productions and television shows.
- You can further hone your skills by working at our 100,000-watt radio station (KNTU-FM) or cable television station (ntTV).
- Students' work has earned Lone Star Emmys, Telly Awards, and honors from the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters, the regional chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.
- Our students annually compete in international and national film festivals and student competitions. Their work has screened at the Dallas International Film Festival, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France, and the Student Academy Award Regional finalist screenings in Chicago.
- Faculty members include internationally recognized scholars; media professionals with backgrounds in film production, news, broadcasting, and social media; and award-winning documentary and narrative filmmakers. Their books are used in university courses throughout the world.
Media Management Certificate Courses
- Media Economics (3 hrs)
- Analysis of the economic aspects of the media industries, particularly film, television, and other industries; accomplished through readings, in-class discussions, and individual projects.
- Media Law and Regulations (3 hrs)
- An introduction to the laws and regulations affecting broadcasting, cable, film, and digital media and analyzes the ways that Hollywood has shaped the laws, regulations, and culture of the U.S.
- Global Media (3 hrs)
- Study of global media and communication theories. Students analyze press and media systems; international media industries; the sources and flow of international media content and news; advertising and branding; and media influence on audiences around the world.
- Media Programming (3 hrs)
- Provides an understanding of programming for media, including the theories and strategies of program selection, format, scheduling, and evaluation.
- Media Management (3 hrs)
- Provides an understanding of the many tasks and duties involved in media management in the broadcast, cable, and telecommunication industries. Includes classroom lectures/discussions, guest speakers, and individual case study assignments and projects.
- Topics in Media Industry Studies (3 hrs)
- Rotating topics in media industry studies. Topics may include digital distribution, social and mobile media industries, production cultures, and case studies of industry leaders.
